Works with Sonos compatibility

Updating the firmware of this product makes it compatible with Works with Sonos.

Compatible firmware versions

  • RX-A8A, RX-A6A, RX-A4A: Ver.2.11 or later
  • RX-A2A: Ver.1.72 or later

When compatible with Works with Sonos

Connect the Yamaha AV Receiver to a Sonos Port using an audio cable*1 to listen to music from the Sonos App or a music source on the AV Receiver. When music playback is started in the Sonos App, the AV Receiver automatically turns on and the input source switches*2.

  1. Use an audio cable such as an analog stereo cable or coaxial digital cable.
  2. Use the MusicCast Controller app to assign input sources and set playback zones of the AV Receiver.

Required equipment

  • AV Receiver (the MusicCast Controller app must be set up)
  • Sonos Port
  • Stereo pin cable (RCA) or coaxial digital cable

Preparations

  1. Connect the AV Receiver and the Sonos Port with a stereo pin cable (RCA) or coaxial digital cable.
  1. Set up the AV Receiver using MusicCast Controller.
  1. Start up MusicCast Controller.
  1. From the “Settings” menu, tap the AV Receiver (room name) you want to set up.
  1. Tap “Works with Sonos”.
  1. Tap the Sonos Port that is being connected to the AV Receiver.
    If devices are connected to multiple Sonos Ports, you will need to set up each device separately.
  1. Set the “Input”, “Preset Volume”, “Output Zone”, and other settings of the AV Receiver connected to the Sonos Port.
  1. Tap “OK”.
  • This completes the preparations.

Playback

Play back music from the Sonos App.

Select the AV Receiver as the playback destination. The AV Receiver input source is switched to the input source connected to the Sonos Port, and the AV Receiver outputs the audio content played back by the Sonos App.
